Introduction to Perl for Os X by Example

Before we Begin

Objective

Participants will gain a broad general understanding of the capabilities of the Perl scripting language and its many uses in the Os X environment.

Assumptions

In this workshop it is assumed that participants are new to Perl but not new to programming, they are comfortable with using the terminal application for interacting with their system and are basically familiar with Os X’s BSD Unix and some of what that entails (file permissions etc.). Participants will also need to be comfortable using a text-editing program to write/manipulate program code. If you do not already have a preferred text editor for coding script I highly recommend TextWrangler, which has the major advantage of being free.
