Favorite OS X Utilities: SoundSource

I’ve been meaning to post about my favorite software and utilities, particularly the really good free (open source) ones for some time. Well here’s a start. I have to blog this one because; one, its good and two, I keep looking for it on the web and forgetting its name “SoundSource”, SoowndSorrse … what’s so difficult about that. Oh well now all I’ll have to do is look on my blog.

About the software:

“SoundSource is a tiny tool for OS X enabling you to switch your audio input and output sources with a single click, and even adjust their volume settings.”

A great freebie from Rogue Amoeba.

Having gushed about SoundSource the blog-gods saw fit to smite me. SS no longer works with one of my Macs and the Rogue Amoeba could not tell me why just that the same problem does occur on a small percentage of Macs. So on one system I use Sound Menu instead . This does not have some of the nice features of SoundSource, such as individual volume controls, but is a good alternative if you happen to gave one of the small number of macs that it doesn’t work on.
